As the name implies, this will be the title of your homepage. This is independent of any other option. If not set, the default blog title will get used.
The META description for your homepage. Independent of any other options, the default is no META description at all if this is not set.
A comma separated list of your most important keywords for your site that will be written as META keywords on your homepage. Don’t stuff everything in here.
Checking this box enables me to see some of the inner workings of this plugin on your blog. This can help tracking problems that only occur at your site for whatever reasons. Only check this if I ask for it! And don’t forget to disable it again after we have debugged something.
Note that this is all about the title tag. This is what you see in your browser’s window title bar. This is NOT visible on a page, only in the window title bar and of course in the source. If set, all page, post, category, search and archive page titles get rewritten. You can specify the format for most of them. For example: The default templates puts the title tag of posts like this: “Blog Archive >> Blog Name >> Post Title” (maybe I’ve overdone slightly). This is far from optimal. With the default post title format, Rewrite Title rewrites this to “Post Title | Blog Name”. If you have manually defined a title (in one of the text fields for All in One SEO Plugin input) this will become the title of your post in the format string.

Check this if you want your categories for a given post used as the META keywords for this post (in addition to any keywords you specify on the post edit page).
This is for using the category description, and only the pure category description, as the title for category pages. If this is checked and there is no category description, the Wordpress default will be used.
Check this for excluding category pages from being crawled. Useful for avoiding duplicate content.
Check this for excluding archive pages from being crawled. Useful for avoiding duplicate content.
Check this and your META descriptions will get autogenerated if there’s no excerpt.
Set this to another value than the internal default of 25 if you want your auto generated META descriptions shorteror longer.

Hi again Uberdose, actually the tags stopped working, do you have a suggestion on another tagging plugin alternative? Tried the utw upgrade, then downgraded again, both don’t show the tags anymore. Running wp 2.2. Thanks much!
December 10th, 2007 at 7:07 am
Hmmm, for whatever reason, my titles are not being generated properly (they’re not applying the new titles I’ve hand-typed and WP is continuing to use the old ones). The meta keywords and descriptions are appearing fine, however. Any thoughts on this? Great plugin btw
December 10th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
@Mark: Please upgrade to 1.4.3.5. Your initial problem should be gone. As for tagging I recommend WP 2.3.x with native tagging.
December 10th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
@Tamar: I see two sets of meta tags on your home, you should get rid of one of them. What happens to your titles when you switch to the default theme? What is the original title of your post “Mixxing In …”, and what is the title you entered into AIOSP’s title field?
December 10th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Hey uberdose: the original title is what you see there (”Mixxing in…”) but my title was more like “A Review of Social News Network Mixx.” It doesn’t show up anywhere and I’m not sure why.
December 11th, 2007 at 7:18 pm
@Tamar: Have you tested with the default theme? If that doesn’t work please also try disabling all other plugins.
December 11th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
I’ll try… I’m afraid to switch to the default theme but I’ll test the other plugins. Thanks!
December 11th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Okay, I have it narrowed down to the theme. How do I fix it?
December 12th, 2007 at 7:49 am
@Tamar: Can you provide me with a link to your zipped theme with all mods you made? Then I can test it locally. Sometimes this yields results, sometimes it just works locally and I can’t find anything. You can send the URL to seopack AAAAT uberdose DOTTTTT com.
December 12th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
Sent - hope you got it. Thanks!
December 12th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
@Tamar: Yes got it. Will look at it as soon as I can spend some time on it.
December 12th, 2007 at 6:57 pm
@Tamar: Just took a very brief look at it. Make sure the call to wp_head() comes *after* your title and everything should be fine (at least it was on my box).
December 13th, 2007 at 1:36 am
Yay! That was it! That was easy, thanks Uberdose!
December 14th, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Is there any way to set the ‘home title’ as part of the various different page titles? i.e. if I set the ‘home title’ to be ‘mypage.com’, and ‘blog_title’ = ‘Some Catchy Phrase,’ can I set a post title to read ‘Post title : mypage.com’ instead of ‘Post title : Some Catchy Phrase?’ Without hacking into the template code, that is… =P

Hi everyone,
Happy user of AIOSEOP, I’m experiencing a trouble with my homepage, so.
When i check “noindex” for categories in SEO options, the plugin inserts “noindex, follow”
in the header of my homepage. Scary thing, when you don’t notice … ;o)
I’ve searched for the subject in recent forum posts but didn’t find anything.
What am I missing ? WP 2.3.1 and late version of the plugin.
Thanks for your work, Uberdose.

December 18th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
@ouranos: Just tested this but it works ok. noindex for categories does as it should, noindexing your categories and leaving your homepage as it is. Please post a link to a URL where I can see this happening.
December 18th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
@uberdose
I just tried again. I prefer not to let this meta on my home.
Before checking “noindex for categorie” :
After checking :
Perhaps my permalink option (customized like this ” /traiteur-paris/%postname%/”)
though i can’t imagine why …
December 18th, 2007 at 6:01 pm
@uberdose
Sorry for my prior message. Here is the header code without the code tags
Before checking “noindex for categorie” :
–all in one seo pack 1.4.3.7 [209,241,Traiteur Paris - ChezGros] –
–meta name=”description” content=”Chezgros, votre traiteur à Paris et en Ile-de-France. Buffets, repas, soirées, mariages.” –
–meta name=”keywords” content=”traiteur,paris,buffet,mariage,repas,soirée,séminaire,anniversaire,pot de départ,” –

@ouranos: You have somehow managed to set up your homepage as category or tag. Your posts are filed under “Accueil”. I believe “Classé dans” means “filed under”. Either fix that or let your categories be indexed.
December 18th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
I forgot to mention the important thing: “Accueil” points to your homepage.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
@uberdose
Thanks for your quick answer. So, the opt-in plugin is guilty. And perhaps all
plugins that manage homepage based on categories. Good piece of information for
a future faq … ;o) That’s a pity, i love this plug-in. I think i’ll be sweating
on my robots.txt, now … Thanks again for the free support.
December 18th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
@ouranos: I don’t know what’s causing this “homepage is a category” business, but it looks like you don’t have to noindex your categories at all?
December 18th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
I don’t know the technical reason but i’m sure it’s the plugin. Like some others plugins,
this one let you choose if a post appears or the home page or not. For the post to appear,
you must put it in a category with a specific slug (the “accueil” category you noticed).
But i don’t understand what you mean by “you don’t have to noindex your categories” …
December 19th, 2007 at 10:38 am
@ouranos: You only have to noindex your categories if you actually use them and want to avoid duplicate content. If your only category is the “accueil” you certainly don’t have to do that. Mind you, I have only looked at two posts, there might be others where you use other categories as well.
December 19th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
@uberdose
Oh, you meant “noindex” with the robots.txt … Yes i’m aware of that, and no
i won’t “noindex” my “accueil” category … ;o) I noticed the problem because
the last date of googlebot crawl indicated by Google webmaster tools seemed weird
to me. So I think it would be a nice thing to mention that to future users (Warning
for those of you who are using a homepage management plugin dealing with categories)
Thanks a lot for your help.
PS : Your message comment field is about 1000px wide and goes out of the visible
portion of my screen (XP - Firefox 2)
December 30th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
I installed version AIOSEOP 1.4.3.6 two weeks ago. Everything seem fine but there is a problem because in permalinks structure it does not take title of the article but alternate text for images. Check for example the latest post http://www.kontrastblog.com/2007/12/27/reduce-electicity-consumption-with-saver-clip/
it should be …/Saver clip to reduce waste of electricity
In permalinks structure it is /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ (http://www.kontrastblog.com/2007/12/30/sample-post/)
How could be this solved?
January 4th, 2008 at 9:30 am
First of all thank you very much for this great plugin. I would like to generate the description for my post without using the auto-generate description. What’s the best way to do it ?
Best regards,
Cédric
January 4th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
@Cedric: Either use the post excerpt (WP feature) or the description field when editing a post.
January 4th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
@Ivan: Permalinks are not an AIOSP feature. The so-called post “slug” is generated on post creation and never changed automatically even if you change the post title. It’s used as part of the link and you can change it.

@uberdose
Hi again, Just started to receive this error message, mostly on searches or category pages, but also on some direct post pages as well. Editing the post, setting the status to draft and then publishing it again sometimes eliminates the error message. In doing a few test searches, it appears that if I edit and re-publish certain posts that were found in the search the error message goes away. Not sure why. Any thoughts? Thanks much!

January 4th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
@Mark: Are you using the latest version?
January 4th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
@uberdose
Thanks, I believe so: ‘This is version 1.4.3.4′ shows in the options and I updated a week or two ago to this version.
January 4th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
@Mark: Then please upgrade, I think your error is now guarded in the code.
January 4th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
@uberdose
Awesome, did the trick! Thanks!
BTW, I used the ‘upgrade now’ button in the WP plugin dashboard to upgrade but it apparently is still pointing ti the 1.4.3.4 version. Downloaded .9 uploaded, and works well. Thanks much again!

January 6th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Hi uberdose,
Thank you very much for your previous answer it works great.
I just updated to your latest plugin because I would like to use your plugin with polyglot but the problem is that I get this error message and don’t know how to fix it.
WordPress database error: [Table ‘db_chef.wp_post2cat’ doesn’t exist]
SELECT cat_ID AS ID, MAX(post_modified) AS last_mod FROM `wp_posts` p LEFT JOIN `wp_post2cat` pc ON p.ID = pc.post_id LEFT JOIN `wp_categories` c ON pc.category_id = c.cat_ID WHERE post_status = ‘publish’ GROUP BY cat_ID

Sorry it’s me again, in fact this problem comes from the plugin sitemap google but now the autor has released a new update and it works fine. I have one more question and than I hope I won’t have to distrub you anymore. I would like to know if it’s possible to use the meta tag with polyglot this way :

Thanks again,

Hi Uberdose,
I’ve been using the pack for a while now, without any problems. I do have one query, however, and it’s not very easy to see if it has already been discussed above (maybe a different bbs-style forum would be more user-friendly?). My question is this: Given that I already have meta-tags, including title, description and keywords, in the header.php (and thus is generated in every post/page), what is the status of the meta-data generated by your SEO Pack? If there is a risk that it is ignored by search engines, is it recommended to remove, or at least abbreviate, the meta-data in the header.php?
Thanks in advance for any tips. BTW, I like the user-oriented detail of having a countdown of characters in the description — very thoughtful!

First of all thank you for such a great plugin!!
And i have a question.
Is there a way to set default keywords for the posts?
For example i own a site of downloads and for every post i use this keywords: office 2007, download office 2007, free office 2007
As you can see i always use “the title of the post”, download “title of the post”, free “title of the post”.
Now is there a way to set this values in the keywords? i’ve tried with %post_title% and but didn’t work.
Can you help me a little?
Thanx 4 everything!

Hello all. I think this is a fabulous plugin, I have been using it for a while, and just realized (after signing up for google webmaster) that I have some issues with the meta title generated on the “tags” pages. I am using %tag% | %blog_title% as my META Title for tag pages, however the %tag% is not working. I am using the Simple Tagging Plugin and wordpress 2.2 (I can’t upgrade because of custom template issues)
Thanks so much for all of your help!!!
January 16th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
@lifestyle: Yes I don’t think it’s compatible with Simple Tagging in this regard. Can you please post the exact download URL for the plugin?
January 16th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
@uberdose here is the url.. http://simpletagging.herewithme.fr (in french..lol) I’m using version 1.7
If you can help, I have no problem editing the plugin so that it will be compatible.
Thanks for the quick response!
