I have been looking at sites that use “Another Wordpress Meta Plugin 1.92” using lynx. This has been my usual check to see what the search engines are seeing. I see the meta descriptions in the source but they don’t show with lynx.
Curious, any suggestions on another test to see what the search engine will pick up?

Just found seo-browser.com

Hi John, Lynx is just an ordinary browser so it won’t display header meta stuff.
If you really want to see it like the crawlers do, look in the source of a page

I installed this plugin and edited a test post, inserting “Testing Post” in the Description field and “Test, Delete” in the Keyword field.
I then went to the single post WP page and searched the page source for those words. They are not there. Am I not understanding something about the way this works?
I am using the Andreas 04 2,0 theme which does have some meta code in it which you can see at the top of source code. Source for the page is in the wp paste bin here–> http://wordpress.pastebin.ca/426244
I am a newbie at this, but I thought I would find the words I entered in your plugin’s fields in the source code of the page that displays that post?
Thanks!
April 6th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Yes, your meta tags should appear in the source code of your post. Please try using the default theme and check whether that works. There are themes that don’t use wp_head() and cause header plugins to never to execute on page rendering
April 6th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
OK, well that might be it. The tags are there in the default theme! The theme I am using is quite popular with many derivations, so it would be great if it would work. I would be willing to make additional customizations if I am capable. However, I am pretty much limited in my knowledge to manipulating the php files to customize the look of the theme. I did just add a search function to this theme as it did not have that.
I don’t fully understand your explanation, though. I may not understand, but when I look at the source (which I put in wp pastebin, link above), it does seem to to reference the head and there are those 4 lines of code relating to meta tags.
I can put the php code from any of the php files there for you if that would help.
Do you see any way I can make you plugin function for this theme?
Thanks!
ps. let me know if you want me to communicate about this in some way other than the comment thread.
April 6th, 2007 at 5:18 pm
Hi Will, just send me the Andreas theme (or better the URL so I can download it) and I will try to patch it.
April 6th, 2007 at 6:00 pm
I am not sure where my previous comment from about 30minutes ago went. Even a hard reload does not show it. Maybe because there was a link in it? Anyway, thanks again for working on it. Here is the link to download the theme, this time cloaked so as not to show as a link in the post.

April 6th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
uberdose - Stop! The link I sent you is for the original theme which has been adapted by many others. What I am using is an adaptation. I will search down that link and post it. Sorry!
April 6th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
OK, here is the correct adaptation! Sorry, it would be less confusing if folks that did adaptations would give the adaptation a more unique name from the original. Anyway, a BIG thanks to you again!

Hi,
I’m using v.1.92 of AWMP on my blogs…everything runs well.
But I think I need a customization for the output on homepage.
For the homepage:
Currently, the category is included in keywords and all define keywords for every post appearing on homepage are used to make the homepage keyword.
Now, if I display 7 latest posts on homepage and say each post has 2 keywords defined and placed in one category, we have :
7×2+7×1=21 keywords for homepage ! Too much, search engines may considered this abuse and this may act negatively and hurt page rankings.
So, can you help to :
1. Choice use category in homepage keywords.
2. Limit the number of keywords from per post shown on homepage to a value set by the user.
Many thanks for this nice plugin…I hope you’d surely help me out.
Thanks,
Agnivo

Hi Agnivo, I recommend All in One SEO Pack for this …
May 21st, 2007 at 5:17 am
Uberdose, I’m aware of AIO SEO pack and its capabilities…I follow the progress of good plugins very keenly.
But due to personal preference, I still prefer AWMP!
I know you’re a great programmer…so it wouldn’t take much time for you to include these options to AWMP if you wish to :
1. Option to include category names as keywords in homepage.
2. Option to include category names as keywords for other pages.
3. How many keywords to show from each post appearing on homepage (textbox, show all=-1)
I believe in writing meta descriptions and keywords manually for all blog posts.
I hope you’ll find a little time for me.
Thanks,
Agnivo

hi,
i have just the same problem like agnivo. i have ~50 keywords in my frontpage and categories. thats just to much. is there any solution to handle this on frontpage and categorypage?
sure i can use another plugin but my website has ~150 posts and i dont want to write new keywords for every post.
August 12th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
@ven: I’m reluctant to change this. It was one of the features right from the start even if it might not please you. As I told agnivo if you just switch to the SEO pack you have everything AWMP could handle plus more control over it. It’s 100% backwards compatible.
August 12th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
i installed the seo pack and it works with the old keywords and descriptions. but i cant limit the keywords, still 50 or something like before.
August 13th, 2007 at 7:59 am
What options do we have here? IMO the way to go is let you specify keywords for categories. It’s been my goal for some time now to let you specify stuff like title etc. for single categories.
August 13th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
yes but i cant define specify keywords for categories. thats my seo pack control panel: http://www.dasmerkmal.de/wp.jpg
August 13th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
Yes I know. But you can control your home page’s keywords. And the ability to specify keywords/descriptions for categories will be available soon.
