Firefox Whois Plugin (at the original firefox plugin repository)
Current version is 0.7, at time of writing still pending review. You just access your context menu while you’re viewing a page and choose “Whois That?”. A new tab opens with all the whois information.

If the download link here doesn’t work, you can download it at http://www.uberdose.com/firefox/whois.html. For being 2.0 compatible, I had to remove some functionality. At the moment, there is no option to define your own whois source. Well I notice you delete about all comments from here, but Im gonna let you know what I think. It does not do ips therefore its not of much use because most people use the whois for doing lookups on ips, not urls. This seems to be mostly a webmaster tool hence using it for ips is more important. Please fix this so it can do ip lookups too. Im sure you will probably delete this post but your whois lookup replaced my old whois.sc on both machiens when I upgarded, I dont know how I didnt ask for your plugin but it did so please fix ths ip lookups.
ps deleting posts about your product is pretty lame, Im sure you have deleted almost every one postiive or negative. It shows you cannot take critism and its just lame man. Think about that will ya?

Jon, this whois NEVER did IP lookups.

I just tried this feature and it works very well here.
I tried to gather IP info of a spammer and couldn’t get it resolved trying other services. With this tool I found the IP address which was not found with all the others. I got to block a terrible spammer.

It’s pretty handy tool. I like it.

While I understand from your comments that it never did IP lookups, I agree with Jon in that this is a very necessary component of WHOIS and would really appreciate you exploring implementation.

As stated previously, the ability to lookup WHOIS information by IP is truly the core of any such tool. After trying to query a link, I found this tool takes a shortcut, if it thinks it knows/recognizes hostname, it queries. The link I attempted to lookup was a phishing site, hostname formatted like so: vids.myspace.com.xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxxx.cn The tool only recognized hostname up until the top-level domain identifier .com failing to see the TRUE domain of .cn If I could offer constructive criticism, perhaps if your tool could parse the link backwards so as to correctly identify the top-level domain and hostname, an increased functionality would be realized that many of your users would enjoy. Thank you,
James

@James: In your case the domain is identified correctly. If I type it in at http://whois.uberdose.com it finally ends at http://whois.uberdose.com/xxxxx.cn which is the whois info you are looking for. Can you clarify what you did to encounter your problem?
